The Emory University Department of Emergency Medicine is pleased to offer a fellowship in Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasonography (AEMUS). The ultrasound fellowship at Emory University seeks to train applicants to be future leaders of emergency ultrasound at the local, national, and international level. While technical ultrasound expertise is an essential component of fellowship, the ultrasound fellow at Emory will be trained to be an ultrasound educator and director, capable of managing a complex workflow of quality assurance and feedback, research expertise, oratory skills, bedside teaching skills, and data management. In addition to diagnostic ultrasound, the fellowship will investigate new and evolving point-of-care ultrasound applications.
The fellowship is a 12-month program. The ultrasound fellow will have a faculty appointment with Emory University as a Senior Associate in the Department of Emergency Medicine. EM board-eligible or board-certified fellows will work clinically at Emory University Main Hospital or Emory University Midtown Hospital. Emory Emergency Medicine’s Ultrasound Fellowship Program was one of the first programs to receive formal accreditation in 2020 from the Emergency Ultrasound Accreditation Council (EUFAC) and continues to maintain its accreditation. Upon successful completion of this EUFAC-accredited fellowship, fellows (EM board eligible/board certified only) will be eligible for the American Board of Emergency Medicine’s Focused Practice Designation (FPD) in Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasound (AEMUS).
The fellow will have an active teaching role in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Consistent with an academic career, each ultrasound fellow will learn how to develop and maintain a "teaching portfolio" during his/her time in the program.
Successful completion of the fellowship will result in a Certificate of Completion signed by the Fellowship Director and the Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine. In addition, the fellow will have completed the requirements for a focused practice designation (FPD) in advanced emergency medicine ultrasound (AEMUS) from the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM).
