The Emory University Department of Emergency Medicine is pleased to offer a fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound. The fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound at Emory University seeks to train applicants to be future leaders of emergency ultrasound at the local, national, and international level. While technical ultrasound expertise is an essential component of fellowship in emergency ultrasound, the Emergency Ultrasound fellow at Emory will be trained to be an ultrasound director, capable of managing a complex workflow of quality assurance and feedback, research expertise, oratory skills, bedside teaching skills, and data management. In addition to diagnostic ultrasound, the Emory Emergency Ultrasound fellowship will investigate new and evolving point-of-care ultrasound applications.
The Emory University Department of Emergency Medicine is currently one of the top recipients of NIH funding in the country, representing research in domestic violence, neurologic injury, and others. The faculty is highly represented in the leadership of national specialty organizations and editorial boards.
The one-year program concentrates on the educational, scientific, and administrative aspects of Emergency Ultrasound. Fellows will be expected to master the skills of:
- bedside ultrasound
- develop a research project
- educate residents, students, and faculty in emergency ultrasound
- participate in the weekly fellow-oriented didactics, video review, and quality assurance
In addition, the fellow will become familiar with the image management process, credentialing of faculty members, and the development of an emergency ultrasound program. The research project will be in an area of programmatic interest to the scholar under the mentorship of one of the department's faculty in Emergency Ultrasound.
The fellow will have an active teaching role in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Consistent with an academic career, each ultrasound fellow will learn how to develop and maintain a "teaching portfolio" during his/her time in the program.
Successful completion of the fellowship will result in a Certificate of Completion signed by the Fellowship Director and the Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine. In addition, the fellow will have completed the requirements for a focused practice designation (FPD) in advanced emergency medicine ultrasound (AEMUS) from the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM).
