Career Opportunities

We seek a new research specialist and a new post-doctoral fellow to contribute to our research program on the biology and genetics of brain cancer and normal brain.  The lab uses Drosophila model systems, cultured human brain cancer cells, and mouse models. We collaborate with clinical faculty in the Departments of Neurosurgery and Pathology.

Research Specialist

In addition to performing research, the research specialist will manage installation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and oversee Drosophila stock collections. The research specialist will be also expected to perform inventory of chemicals and reagents, prepare and maintain biological samples, record data, and keep detailed laboratory records. A bachelor’s degree in a scientific field is required. Experience in independent research and coursework in developmental genetics and genetics is preferred.

Please check back soon for more detailed information on applying for this position.

Postdoc

Description
A postdoctoral position is available to study the biology and genetics of brain cancer. Research will involve experiments with animal models and cultured cells, focusing on a novel Drosophila model system for human brain cancer. Using Drosophila, we have performed large-scale genetic screens for regulators of brain cancer cell proliferation, survival, and invasion. We have identified several novel genes and pathways involved in these processes, and follow-up research in mammalian models of adult and pediatric brain cancer is underway. The successful candidate will conduct detailed mechanistic studies on these novel factors in vivo in Drosophila and complement these studies using cultured human brain cancer stem cells and mouse xenograft models. Work with mouse models and patient specimens will be performed in collaboration with physician-scientists in Neurosurgery and Neuropathology. Candidates with expertise in Drosophila genetics and neurodevelopment are highly desirable. Novel training opportunities are provided in functional genomics, brain cancer pathogenesis, and glial and cancer stem cell biology in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in genetics, pharmacology, cancer biology, developmental biology, or related field and a solid publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Candidates with training in Drosophila genetics who are eligible for NIH training grant positions are preferred.
