Welcome to the Robinson Lab
Brian Robinson, MD, PhD
The Robinson Lab, led by Dr. Brian Robinson and housed in the Whitehead Biomedical Research Building, is part of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
Our research focuses on epithelial repair programs in the intestine, examining how genes and environmental factors shape these processes. We are particularly interested in how reactive oxygen species (ROS) and ROS‑driven pathways influence tissue restitution. To investigate these questions, we use a complementary set of biochemical approaches and genetic model organisms to uncover the mechanisms that guide epithelial repair.
Our Research
Our lab is focused on understanding Epithelial repair in the intestine and how intestinal repair pathways influence aging and disease in metazoans. To that end, our lab interacts across three broad research programs including:
- Defining the impact of ROS and ROS-stimulated programs intestinal epithelial cell repair programs
- Understanding how tissue glycosylation impacts tissue restitution, with a particular focus on how the galactose-binding glycans galectins influence epithelial and immune homeostasis
- Using Drosophila as a discovery platform to identify novel genetic regulators of epithelial injury/repair
