Johanna grew up in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She attended the University of Louisville through the Brown Fellows scholarship. Through this program, she double-majored in biology and anthropology and organized independent study programs in five countries. Following her undergraduate years, she taught conversational English and led leadership, diplomatic, and diversity programs for high school students in Seocheon, South Korea, through the Fulbright Program. Upon returning to the U.S., she began medical school at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. She graduated with a certificate from its SELECT Program, which focuses on emotional intelligence, values-based patient-centered care, healthcare systems, and quality improvement. She chose Emory Neurology because of its culture of support and respect, enthusiastic faculty, and incredible academic resources. She was drawn to the city of Atlanta because of its diverse and friendly population and a growing art scene. In her spare time, she enjoys painting, hiking, discovering new restaurants, and listening to podcasts.
