David is originally a native of Jackson, Mississippi, but he has deep ties to the city of Atlanta which he is proud to call home. He developed an intense interest in research during his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Millsaps College, where he ultimately completed a research fellowship in organic chemistry. Spurred on by the prospect of discovery but also curious about a career in healthcare, David pursued a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Mississippi School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences while also working at the University Hospital as an ECG technician; it was there he decided to pursue a career as a physician-scientist. He enrolled in the MD/PhD program at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences: his PhD dissertation project investigated the effects of explosive shockwaves on the vestibular system, and the utility of the vestibulo-ocular reflex as an early biomarker for mild traumatic brain injury. He is excited to train in the Emory Neurology Residency Program for multiple reasons including but not limited to: ample opportunities for research during training, wide exposure through varied training settings and locations (Emory University Hospital, Grady Memorial Hospital, the Atlanta VAMC, and the Emory Brain Health Center), multiple fellowships available at the institution, and his personal ties to the city of Atlanta. David enjoys spending his non-clinical time with his family, friends, and dogs, but can otherwise be found mountain biking, paddling amd hiking.
