The Department of Medicine’s Office of Research implemented an initiative in 2012 after receiving feedback from career development awardees indicating the need for more resources and mentoring to help early-career faculty obtain career development awards (CDA) and support them on their paths towards independent funding.
R2NEXUS Workshop Series
Road 2 NEXt sUcceSs (R2NEXUS) workshop series is comprised of half-day workshops, held two to four times per year each covering different aspects of research program development and are meant to ease the path towards becoming an independent investigator. Participants can register for those workshops most applicable to their stage in research program development.
R2NEXUS has been developed to offer a unique opportunity to facilitate career development and skills training, allow for peer-to-peer networking and building relationships with other talented new investigators, standardize the information CDA awardees receive, and supplement the advice and direction received from the CDA mentor(s).

R2NEXUS CDA Transition Committees
In addition to hosting the R2NEXUS Workshops, the Office of Research will establish a CDA Transition Committee for each CDA awardee to offer individualized guidance in his/her transition to independent funding. The committee will meet annually over the course of the career development award and will notify awardees of resources available to them through the DOM as well as give advice for successful transitioning.
"A suggestion from last year helped lead to collaboration/mentoring opportunity."
"...this committee has helped me focus my goals and aims for the upcoming year."
