Interventional Pulmonology at Emory University offers advanced techniques and procedures that have dramatically changed the approach to diagnosing, staging, and treating lung cancers, as well as pulmonary nodules, benign airway disease, and pleural diseases. The Interventional Pulmonology Program is the largest and most comprehensive program of its kind in the state of Georgia and offers a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
The program was established to provide patients with access to the latest, minimally invasive, state-of-the art diagnostic and therapeutic modalities to treating lung and pleural diseases. As one of the first programs in the country, the Emory Interventional Pulmonology program has experienced significant growth since its establishment. It has five fellowship-trained interventional pulmonologists on staff with access to provide a full range of interventional services at three major academic hospitals in Atlanta.
Research and Recognition
In addition to exceptional clinical care and education, the members of the Interventional Pulmonology program are dedicated to the growth of the field. Research is a significant part of the advancement of the field. Research studies examining the clinical indications and patient outcomes of interventional procedures are important, especially as new medical devices are frequently introduced to the market. The program consistently presents original research at national and international meetings for the American College of Chest Physicians, American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, and the American Thoracic Society.
Emory University offers a one year fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology. The Interventional Pulmonary fellow is expected to be knowledgeable in all on-going IP-related research studies and to contribute where necessary. Through this experience, the fellow will gain valuable experience in designing and performing literature review prior to IRB submission, conducting clinical research and analyzing research data. The fellow is also expected to produce and present at least one IP-related research study at a national conference or for publication. Visit the Interventional Pulmonary Fellowship page for additional information regarding the Emory University Interventional Pulmonary Fellowship.
