I attended University of Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria where I got my Bachelor in Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) degree in 1990. Due to early marriage and child rearing my career was on hold for some years after which I went back for Masters in Pharmacy (M.Pharm.) in Clinical Pharmacy & Biopharmacy, University of Lagos and thereafter PhD in Clinical Pharmacy in 2013. My area of focus for research is adherence and pharmacological management of diseases such as HIV, TB, COVID-19 and diabetes among pediatrics, adolescents and young adults as well as women in resource limited settings. I am currently working as a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos, Nigeria where I teach Clinical pharmacy courses and mentor students in clinical research. I am currently working on two main researches; ‘Using hair antiretroviral concentration to measure adherence in adult and adolescent females in a large treatment site’ for the Emory-Nigeria Research Training Program (EN RTP) and ‘Evaluating a multicomponent stepped care intervention program to improve adherence and retention in care of adolescents and young adults in Lagos, Nigeria’ under the HBNU Fogarty Global Health Training Program.
About my experience in the Emory-Nigeria Research Training Program:
As a medium-term trainee in the program, I was exposed to skill building programs in mentorship, writing and presentation skills. This experience translated in my applying for 3 international grants in the course of the training period: HBNU Fogarty Global Health Training Program, 2019/2020 IAS Collaborative Initiative for Pediatrics HIV Education and Research (CIPHER) Grant and 2022-2023 Fulbright African Research Scholar program. The first was successful, the second unsuccessful and I am still awaiting feedback from the third. I am now able to confidently provide a more constructive mentoring to fourteen of my undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as some junior faculty members. This is one of the outcomes from the on-going mentorship provided by my EN-RTP national mentor, Prof. Alani S. Akanmu and my international mentor, Dr. Cecille Lahiri. During the training period, I have worked on a number of researches with my students and have published three manuscripts in peer reviewed journal submitted two, are in different stages of reviews. I am also currently analyzing finished projects and writing up for publication.
