The Department of Medicine RYSE Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council is now accepting nominations for a new departmental award. Awardees will present at Health Equity Day May 17, 2022.
Purpose of Award
To support and recognize rising URiM researchers producing outstanding research publications in all research areas, including basic, clinical, public health, health services, and health equity.
Nomination Deadline: Monday, March 21, 2022
Eligibility
Any faculty or postdoctoral fellow who meet all of the following criteria:
- Individual from a historically underrepresented background which NIH defines as Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders
- Primary appointment in the Department of Medicine of Emory University
- Has not previously received an R01 grant or equivalent
Nominations
Investigators must submit a peer-reviewed original research publication on which they are the first or last author. The associated manuscript must have been published or accepted for publication between March 21, 2021 and March 21, 2022. Only one entry/publication per nominee will be accepted for review. A significant portion of data acquisition must have been performed at Emory. Nominations can be self-made or made by other eligible faculty.
Manuscripts will be judged on impact of the research and the more universal standards of adherence to scientific method, clarity of writing, quality of methods and statistics, and significance of results. Evaluators will be an advisory committee consisting of members of the DEI Council and researchers within the Department of Medicine.
Award
$2,500 for costs associated with scientific conference travel and/or publication costs. Receipt of this award does not preclude eligibility for other awards.
Awardee Conditions and Reporting
Awardees are expected to submit and report their work at Health Equity Day May 17, 2022. Awardees will also submit a brief report on the external scientific session they attended with the support of this funding.
