I chose family medicine for its full-spectrum training. I loved that you were the first point of care and one to be in communication with all other specialists. I loved how diverse your practice and population can be in family medicine. And I especially loved how flexible and adaptable family medicine is in any setting that makes it that much more valuable and needed, especially in underserved communities.
Within three years, I want to feel competent to manage patients of all age, all ethnicities, all pathologies, its varying presentations, and everything in between. It was, therefore, important for me to find a program that cultivated comprehensive training with a diverse population in all areas, including cultural and socioeconomic status.
It was impressive to have found a program that not only spoke of the importance of diversity but also showed that through the diversity seen in their faculty and residents and their different clinical interests. From then on, I was won over by their genuine happiness and excitement for this program. I feel truly grateful to have found a program where I will be well trained and also well supported at the Emory Family Medicine Program.
