Jake has harbored a passion for neurotrauma since his earlier years. Growing up, both he and his brother faced traumatic brain/spine injuries while participating in sports. Witnessing his brother's nonverbal state during concussion recovery and enduring a spine fracture that confined him to a brace fueled Jake's inspiration. Intrigued by these experiences and driven by curiosity, Jake seized the opportunity to work in Candace's lab during her tenure at the University of Utah. Subsequently, Jake joined a local organization, aiding individuals in recovery from traumatic brain injuries and worked in a clinic addressing chronic back pain. These experiences not only honed his laboratory skills but also deepened his comprehension of the intricate process of translating treatments for traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries from the laboratory bench to bedside. With a desire to further understand these issues and contribute to the community that profoundly impacted his own experiences, Jake envisions applying to medical school in the future.
