Hannah is from Cumming, Georgia. She is a rising senior at Forsyth Central High School’s STEM Academy, in the biotechnology pathway. Hannah is a varsity athlete and is actively involved in a variety of clubs and honor societies. She serves as an officer in HOSA - Future Health Professionals, and placed 3rd at the state level for Medical Innovation which qualified her for the International Leadership Conference. Additionally, Hannah is a violinist with the Symphony Orchestra of North Georgia (SONG) and in a chamber ensemble. Hannah has experience with various lab techniques such as PCR and gel electrophoresis, and is excited to work with the Liang Lab this summer and expand her exposure to the biochemistry field.

Arisha Fatima High School Intern
Arisha Fatima is originally from Alpharetta, Georgia and is currently a junior at Fulton Science Academy. Deeply passionate about neuroscience and public health, Arisha has led and presented multiple research projects focused on the intersection of caregiving and brain health. She conducted a systematic review on chronic sleep deprivation in Alzheimer’s caregivers, which she presented at the International Young Researchers’ Conference and published in the conference journal. She also presented original work on the impact of maternal depression on offspring at the International Neuropsychological Conference. In summer 2024, she interned at PsychSource, where she built a verified mental health resource database by designing systems for ongoing accuracy and access. Her research interests center on neurodegenerative disease, caregiver mental health, and health equity. Arisha is passionate about using both data and community-centered approaches to expand access to evidence-based care and is excited to deepen her research experience in a lab setting.

Albert Li High School Intern
Albert Li is from Decatur, Georgia, and is a rising junior at Decatur High School. He is extremely passionate about the fields of chemistry, physics, and computer science. At his school, Albert is a IB Diploma candidate and participates actively in a wide variety of clubs and activities, including Science Olympiad, where he has placed first in the bungee drop event at a regional competition, Chemistry Olympiad, Mu Alpha Theta, as the founder of his school’s chapter, and FRC Robotics. In addition, Albert serves on the student government association at his school as senator. He also plays clarinet in the wind ensemble, the most advanced band class at his school, and has auditioned successfully to the GMEA All-State Band twice. Albert is also a varsity swimmer at his school, having qualified for the GHSA state swim meet in both his freshman and sophomore years, and having received an honorable mention on the GHSSCA All-State team. Outside of academics, Albert enjoys hanging out with friends, golfing, and composing music. He looks forward to interning this summer at the Liang Lab to further his interest and understanding of biochemistry.

Keertan Patel Undergraduate Intern
Keertan Patel is from Greenville, South Carolina and is a rising junior at the University of South Carolina Honors College, majoring in Public Health. He has a strong interest in both neuroscience and health equity, and currently conducts research in the Twiss Lab, studying axonal regeneration and local protein synthesis in injured neurons. Keertan also works as a medical assistant at an ENT clinic. Outside the lab, he volunteers as a GED tutor at Manning Correctional Institution and serves as the South Carolina Director of Operations for The Healing Tide, a nonprofit focused on expanding access to care for underserved populations. He was recently awarded the South Carolina Honors College Research Grant and previously participated in Prisma Health’s MedEx Academy. Keertan joined the Liang Lab to expand his research experience and deepen his understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying disease and repair.

Shreya Sehgal High School Intern
Shreya is a rising senior from Atlanta, Georgia with a strong interest in healthcare and biomedical research. She conducted a research project on diabetic macular edema, comparing OCT and FA imaging in women over 50. A dedicated student leader, she serves as president of her HOSA chapter, an officer in the Anatomy Club, and is active in the Red Cross Club, Science Olympiad, Beta Club, NHS, etc. A quadrilingual student who has placed nationally in German competitive events, she is enrolled in her school’s most rigorous academic track. Shreya is also the lead student athletic trainer at her school and a recipient of the BJSA Award for her volunteer work. She joined the Liang Lab to gain handson experience in biochemistry and deepen her understanding of the field.
