Dr. Eric Ortlund and Dr. Rheinallt Jones were funded by the Emory Center for Transplantation and Immune-Mediated Disorders (CTID) to understand how the microbiome rewires lipid and metabolic signaling in neonates. Probiotics drive profound changes in gene expression in the gut-liver axis affecting metabolism, homeostasis, and inflammation and growth. This proposal utilizes germ-free mice raised in Emory's newly-established Gnotobiotic facility, which is under the direction of Dr. Rheinallt Jones, and the newly established SOM Emory Integrated Lipidomics facility (ELIC) established by Dr. Eric Ortlund.
