For Current Learners

The School of Medicine boasts an impressive 31% underrepresented in medicine (URiM) medical student population. The Office of Multicultural Affairs and Office of Equity and Inclusion offers resources and programs to support the mentorship, learning, and experience for all learners.

Actionable Education Initiative

An educational portfolio for learners, staff and faculty that infuses principles and competencies to move from awareness of internal biases and external forces of marginalization and oppression into learning about their historical and psychological origins and effects and on to growing into anti-racist allies who actively work for and prize diversity, equity and inclusion. The resources are available in four domains: anti-racism, implicit bias education, from bystander to upstander and history.

DEIRA Curriculum

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Racial Advocacy (DEIRA) curriculum is designed to lay a foundation of anti-racism and equip students to become DEI leaders and advocates.

EMPACT Mentoring Program

A mentoring program for students who self-identify as underrepresented in medicine (URiM) and/or those who may come from disadvantaged backgrounds, with experiences that foster timely and successful matriculation through medical school.

Affinity Groups

To build a culture that recognizes the contributions of all individuals, include those who come from underrepresented groups, our office hosts affinity groups and affinity month celebrations.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Visiting Clerkship

Provides mentoring, networking, and stipend support for URiM, fourth-year students from U.S. medical schools pursuing careers in internal medicine and its subspecialties.

Diversity and Inclusion Week

A school-wide celebration of the broad ranges of identities and experiences that make up our diverse community. The week offers lectures, breakout sessions, power presentations, and social activities.

Juneteenth Programming

An annual film screening and discussion on the historic struggles to secure equal and adequate access to healthcare for all Americans.

Hamilton E. Holmes Memorial Lecture

An annual lecture series named for the first African-American to enter and graduate from Emory University School of Medicine.
