MD and DO Students Currently Attending School in the U.S. and Puerto Rico
Fourth year MD and DO students attending AAMC Member Medical schools in the United States and Puerto Rico can apply through AAMC.
A non-refundable $100 application fee, payable through VSLO, will be required.
If accepted, students must pay an additional registration fee of $260 to Emory University.
MD Students Currently Attending International Medical Schools
Students who currently attend an international medical school and are fourth year medical students can apply directly to Emory University School of Medicine using the link below.
The TOEFL iBT is required - the minimum score is 100, with no less than 25 scored on each individual section.
Please note that a non-refundable $525 application fee will be required. We accept applications from April 15, 2025 through August 31, 2025. Application review will begin on June 9, 2025.
Placement for electives will be from October to February.

If accepted, students must pay an additional tuition of $4,500 to Emory University.
Housing, transportation and food are the responsibility of the student.
International Student Application Documents
Checklist of items that must be uploaded into the online application:
- A current official transcript from your school
- Letter from your Registrar or Dean, on university letterhead, stating that you are, 1) in good academic standing, 2) in your final year of study, and 3) have completed and passed 5 required core clerkships: internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, and psychiatry.
- Completed Immunization Form
- Personal Statement detailing why you are interested in completing an elective rotation at Emory School of Medicine. This should be typed in Microsoft Word and uploaded into the application.
- A COLOR copy of the main pages of your passport showing, 1) passport number, 2) date of issue, 3) expiration date, 4) date of birth, 5) place of birth, 6) photo
- Your USMLE Step 1 Report
- TOEFL Exam Report if from a non-English speaking country
- You will pay your application fee of $525 online – the link is in the application – and upload proof of payment
Checklist of items that must be submitted if accepted:
- Proof of personal health coverage which provides coverage in the United States, and specifically in Georgia
- Proof of medical liability and/or malpractice insurance covered by your home school during the elective time (minimum of $1 million per occurrence/$5 million aggregate liability)
- N95 Face Mask Fit Test
- Documentation of a criminal background check through an Emory preferred background check provider
