The Emory School of Medicine Simulation Program is located in the Emory medical education building and includes both the Emory Center for Experiential Learning (ExCEL) and the Human Simulation Education Center (HSEC).
ExCEL simulation center, located in the basement of the School of Medicine Building, is a state of the art facility encompassing aproximately 6,000 square feet of educational space. ExCEL includes spaces for high-fidelity patient simulators, task trainers to simulate specific medical procedures, hybrid simulation with simulated patients (SPs), and life support training- ACLS and BLS certification.
HSEC is used for standardized patient education, clinical skills education, physical diagnosis and other educational experiences. It contains four suites each of which contain a central debrief room with projection capability and 4 examination rooms equipped with examination table and standard clinic equipment.
As Emory SOM Simulation, HSEC and ExCEL have a shared mission and vision:
MISSION:
The mission of the simulation program is to provide a diverse group of learners with collaborative, evidence-based, experiential learning opportunities that develop learner knowledge and the clinical skills needed to safely and effectively care for the patient communities they serve.
VISION:
We aim to be leaders in simulation education by contributing to innovative advances in research and implementing emergent simulation technologies and techniques that transform learning with the goal of promoting interprofessional growth, and compassionate, patient-centered care.
