Welcome to the Ivanov Lab
Andrey A. Ivanov, PhD
Assistant Professor
Pharmacology and Chemical Biology
Andrey Ivanov, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at Emory University School of Medicine and the Associate Director for Computational Chemical Biology at the Emory Chemical Biology Discovery Center. Dr. Ivanov’s lab advances therapeutic discovery by integrating AI/ML with structural modeling, systems biology, and experimental chemical biology to uncover actionable mechanisms in cancer and inflammatory disorders. The Ivanov Lab focuses on disease-driving proteins and protein–protein interactions (PPIs), translating computational insights into first-in-class small-molecule modulators for precision medicine.
The lab’s major directions are:
Target discovery: Identifying and prioritizing tumor and inflammation dependencies through integrated systems biology and functional genomics, including the development of AI resources such as the Averon framework and the Emory OncoPPI Portal to convert complex networks into druggable hypotheses.
Small-molecule drug design: Designing and optimizing selective modulators of proteins and PPIs (e.g., MKK3/MYC and p38/MK2) by combining AI/ML-guided computation with high-throughput screening, cheminformatics, and structure-based methods.
Mechanistic biology: Defining pathways and pharmacologic mechanisms with cutting-edge technologies in chemical biology and molecular pharmacology, enabling rigorous validation of targets and compounds in disease-relevant models.
Together, the Ivanov lab’s AI-driven program delivers actionable targets, high-quality chemical tools, and robust mechanistic insights to advance drug discovery and deepen understanding of disease biology.
