All candidates for the Emory Clinical Informatics Fellowship Program must have:

• an MD degree or DO degree or equivalent,
• successfully completed or be expected to successfully complete an ACGME-accredited residency program located in the United States in any primary medical specialty prior to entering the Clinical Informatics fellowship,
• a current curriculum vitae that reflects the candidate's educational and work experience with a focus on his/her experience, interest, and potential in the field of clinical informatics,
• a brief personal statement (no more than 500 words) about why the candidate seeks fellowship training in Clinical Informatics through the Emory Clinical Informatics Fellowship, and
• a minimum of three letters of reference from faculty at an existing program or employment. Requirements for these letters are listed below.
  • One letter must be from a person with a MD, PhD or equivalent specializing in an area of biomedical informatics who can attest to the applicant’s potential to practice independently in clinical informatics.
  • If the candidate is a current trainee (resident or fellow), one letter must be from the trainee's current program director.

A candidate may enter into fellowship as a clinical informatics-only fellow, which requires 24 months of training.

However, a candidate may also seek to pursue an Integrated Training Experience (ITE) in which the fellow completes two fellowships at the same time.

• Upon approval of the ITE by both subspecialty boards and successful completion of the integrated fellowship, the fellow may sit for board certification in both specialties.

Integrated Training Experience candidates must apply directly to the Emory Clinical Informatics Fellowship Program and to another fellowship program at Emory.

• Fellows may not pursue integrated training at two different institutions.
• Candidates must notify both programs of the intent to pursue integrated training.
• Candidates must be independently accepted to both programs before fellowship directors can apply to the individual certifying boards for permission to pursue integrated training.
• For clinical informatics, the application and selection process are equivalent to the AMIA Clinical Informatics Fellowship Match.
