Annual Awards Ceremony
The Department of Neurology recognizes the outstanding contributions of individual faculty members each year during an annual awards ceremony. The awardees are recognized for their excellence in mentoring, teaching, clinical practice, scholarship and community services
Distinguished Mentoring Award: Research: Recognizes a Neurology faculty member who has served as an outstanding mentor to Emory faculty or trainees in the research domain
Distinguished Mentoring Award: Service and Education: Recognizes a Neurology faculty member who has served as an outstanding mentor to Emory faculty or trainees in the clinical/service domain
Distinguished Service Award: Institutional and Regional: Recognizes a Neurology faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding service and citizenship to the Emory community and/or Atlanta and surrounding areas
Distinguished Teaching Award: Recognizes a Neurology faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in teaching students and postdoctoral fellows involved in scholarship, clinical and service activities
Distinguished Neurology Scholar –Junior Faculty: Recognizes a junior Neurology faculty member who has contributed significantly to the scholarly literature and the advancement of science within the field of neurology and neurosciences
Distinguished Neurology Scholar –Senior Faculty: Recognizes a senior Neurology faculty member who has contributed significantly to the scholarly literature and the advancement of science within the field of neurology and neurosciences
Distinguished Clinician Award: Recognizes a Neurology faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in clinical care
Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award: Recognizes Neurology faculty who have made significant achievements in ensuring that the climate of the Department of Neurology is characterized by inclusivity and organizational equity through leveraging the varied attributes of diversity in our community
Distinguished Mentoring Award: Research
Description: This Mentoring Award recognizes a Neurology faculty member who has served as an outstanding mentor to Emory faculty or trainees in the research domain.
Eligibility: Part-time or full-time faculty of all ranks within the Emory University Department of Neurology who are currently serving as a formally recognized mentor to faculty or trainees are eligible to receive the Mentoring Award. Faculty members who have received this award within the previous 3 years are ineligible.
Nominations: Mentors must be nominated by a current mentee or group of mentees. A concise (< 500 words) narrative describing the attributes that distinguish the nominee as a mentor should accompany the nomination. Additional letters (one page maximum per letter) from other current or previous mentees are encouraged. No more than 5 letters should be provided.
Submissions: Submissions must be made electronically by e-mail and sent to Christina Holbrook at cholbro@emory.edu. Submissions should include the nominating letter and name and contact information of the faculty member being nominated (Word or PDF) and additional letters of support from previous mentees, if applicable. Distinguished Service Award
Description: The Service Award recognizes a Neurology faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding service and citizenship in service.
Eligibility: Part-time or full-time faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels within the Emory University Department of Neurology. Faculty members who have received this award within the previous 3 years are ineligible.
Nominations: Faculty must be nominated by a faculty member or a staff member of Emory University, Emory Healthcare, or an Emory affiliate. The nomination should consist of a concise narrative (500 words or less) describing the outstanding service or citizenship contributions of the nominee at the institutional and regional level. Up to two additional letters of support (500 words or less) from internal or external individuals or organizations may also be submitted. Nominations should emphasize specific aspects of service or citizenship. Outstanding examples of service and citizenship can include, but is not limited to:
- Important administrative service to the Emory community despite heavy clinical or research demands
- Service to the community via public education programs or campaigns, volunteerism, or non-profit organizations
- Exemplary service to underserved populations, colleagues or the general public
- Development of new or innovative programs as recognized by the University or School of Medicine
- Participation and leadership in University, School of Medicine, or hospital/clinic-wide committees

Distinguished Teaching Award
Description: The Teaching Award recognizes a Neurology faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in teaching residents, fellows, graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows or other trainees.
Eligibility: Part-time or full-time faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level within the Emory University Department of Neurology. Faculty members who have received this award within the previous 3 years are ineligible.
Nominations: Candidates must be nominated by a current trainee, group of trainees or faculty colleague(s). A concise (< 500 word) narrative describing the attributes of the nominee as a distinguished teacher should accompany the nomination. Distinguished Neurology Scholar – Junior Faculty
Description: The Award recognizes a junior Neurology faculty member who has contributed significantly to the scholarly literature and the advancement of science within the field of neurology and neurosciences.
Eligibility: Part-time or full-time faculty at the level of Assistant Professor level within the Emory University Department of Neurology. Faculty members who have received this award within the previous 5 years are ineligible.
Nominations: Candidates must be nominated by a current full-time or part-time Emory faculty member. A concise (< 500 word) narrative describing the attributes of the nominee as a distinguished neurology scholar must accompany the nomination. Additional letters (up to five, one page maximum per letter) can be submitted.

Eligibility: Part-time or full-time faculty at the level of Associate Professor or Professor within the Emory University Department of Neurology. Faculty members who have received this award within the previous 3 years are ineligible.
