The Department of Neurology has an Appointment and Promotion (A&P) Committee that assists faculty members in the department with their career advancement through the academic ranks. The main committee's roles are twofold: (1) to make recommendations regarding promotion of Neurology faculty to the Department Chair and the School of Medicine and (2) approve the appointment of all new faculty in the Department of Neurology. In concert with the faculty development committee, the A&P committee also helps junior faculty moving towards promotion by giving them advice on the areas of strength and weaknesses in their CV after they have been in rank for 4-6 years in the Department. The committee is led by the Vice-Chair of Faculty Development, and comprises the Department chair, all Neurology division directors and other professors in the Department of Neurology.
Appointments and promotions are guided by the School of Medicine's Guidelines on Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure.
These guidelines provide detailed information about what is required for each track for each rank. Faculty are strongly encouraged to work with their mentor(s), Division Director, the faculty development committee and Vice-Chair of Faculty Development in the process of preparing their materials for promotion.
For more detail about the promotions process within the School of Medicine, please see the Junior and Senior Promotion information (Emory login required).
