The HSRC maintains a list of HSR related databases across campus. Please email Tracy Obertone for the most updated list. Below is a selection of research resources and data.
Department of Medicine Research Resources
Through the Department of Medicine Office of Research, many resources are available to support, guide, and advance Department of Medicine faculty and trainee’s careers in research, including those who focus on health services. These resources include funding opportunities, research related events, tools, as well as research administration services.
Department of Surgery Faculty Core Services
The faculty core services within the Department of Surgery provide staff support for faculty activities, efforts, and initiatives that correspond to the academic, clinical, and research components of the department’s mission. These resources include clinical trial assistance and centralized resources to support data analysis projects, including quality, financial, patient population, and statistical analyses.
Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance
The Georgia Clinical & Translational Science Alliance (Georgia CTSA) is an inter-institutional magnet that concentrates basic, translational, and clinical research investigators, community clinicians, professional societies, and industry collaborators in dynamic clinical and translational research projects.
Healthcare Innovation Program Seed Grants
Healthcare Innovation Program Seed Grants are allocated to multi-investigator & multi-disciplinary teams who examine healthcare services and clinical effectiveness. Awards will support innovative approaches that address issues of healthcare quality, costs, and/or access in well-characterized patient populations. Research studies in health services and clinical effectiveness will be considered involving adult and/or pediatric patients.
Biostatistics and Collaboration Core and the Emory Integrated Core Facilities
In collaboration with the School of Medicine, the Biostatistics and Collaboration Core can provide statistical and bioinformatics analysis for research, assistance with study design, and collaboration on grant proposals at Emory. Additional services include database development, implementation, and maintenance.
Network for Evaluation and Implementation Sciences
The Network for Evaluation and Implementation Sciences at Emory is located within the Rollins School of Public Health. The mission of NEIS is to improve population health by conducting rigorous, evidence-based, and actionable research on implementing programs and informing policies in the U.S. and abroad. Within NEIS, information can be found regarding the evaluation and implementation sciences work happening across Emory University.
A group of surgeons and scientists interested in advancing health services and outcomes research within surgery research topics. Officially launched at the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress in 2005, SOC provides the ability for collaboration and communication about the newest issues in surgical research.
The National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network
Emory is also a partnering site for the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) PCORnet through Emory's Health Services Research Center partnership with the OneFlorida+ clinical research network, which unites researchers, clinicians, patients, and stakeholders across Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Researchers can propose to utilize the PCORNet regional and national data for retrospective and prospective research studies.
Data Resources
Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research Data Repository
GCDTR's primary mission is to empower individuals to conduct equitable diabetes research. It is
dedicated to facilitating practice, program, and policy research by leveraging local, regional, and national
databases to enhance decision-making in diabetes prevention and management. The collective data it
provides offers a comprehensive understanding of disease burden, healthcare costs, utilization, and
more, all with a steadfast commitment to health equity.
With the GCDTR Data Repository, individuals are invited to explore the extensive collection, collaborate
with fellow researchers, and join the organization in making a meaningful difference in diabetes
research and health equity. The GCDTR Data Repository can be accessed by visiting this link.
Social Determinants of Health Database (SDOH-RD)
AHRQ's database on Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) was created by a project funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) Trust Fund. The purpose of this project is to create easy to use, easily linkable SDOH-focused data to use in PCOR research, inform approaches to address emerging health issues, and ultimately contribute to improved health outcomes. The database was developed to make it easier to find a range of well documented, readily linkable SDOH variables across domains without having to access multiple source files, facilitating SDOH research and analysis. Data can be downloaded directly from the website.
Synthetic Healthcare Database for Research (SyH-DR)
The Synthetic Healthcare Database for Research (SyH-DR) is an all-payer, nationally representative claims database. It consists of a sample of inpatient, outpatient, and prescription drug claims for people insured by Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial health insurance in 2016, including utilization, payment, and enrollment information. AHRQ created SyH-DR, in part, as a resource to facilitate improvements to price and quality transparency in healthcare. While there is no cost, SyH-DR access requires an application and data use agreement prior to use.
