Advancing Health Services Research to Improve Lives
The Health Services Research (HSR) Center is a collaborative initiative between the Emory University School of Medicine and the Rollins School of Public Health. Our mission is to improve access to care, enhance the quality of healthcare delivery, and advance health outcomes for patients and communities.
A Leader in the Southeast, Located in the Public Health Capital of the World
As a leading center for health services research in the Southeastern United States, the HSR Center is uniquely positioned in Atlanta—internationally recognized as the public health capital of the world. Our proximity to world-class institutions like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), combined with Emory’s commitment to addressing unmet health needs, promoting discovery and innovation, and to serving the community, makes us a powerful hub for research, education, and policy innovation.
We sit at the intersection of regional health system transformation and global public health leadership, building partnerships that drive real-world impact.
Driving a Learning Health System
Embedded within one of the largest health systems in the United States, the HSR Center helps build and sustain a learning health system. By working closely with Emory Healthcare and other partners, we are uniquely positioned to translate research into action—informing clinical care, evaluating outcomes, and continuously improving how care is delivered.
This real-time feedback loop ensures that research addresses frontline challenges and leads to scalable, evidence-based solutions for better patient outcomes.
Training the Next Generation of Leaders
Training and mentorship are central to our mission. We are home to an AHRQ-funded T32 training program in health services research, providing rigorous, interdisciplinary training for postdoctoral scholars. Our trainees gain hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating healthcare systems, preparing them for leadership roles in academia, health systems, government, and beyond.
In addition to the T32 program, we offer ongoing professional development through seminars, workshops, and collaborative research opportunities—creating a strong pipeline of innovative researchers who are well-positioned to conduct high-impact research that shapes health systems and policy.
