David Berkowitz, MD

Dr. Berkowitz completed his medical residency at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, and his pulmonary-critical care fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He completed an additional one-year of Interventional Pulmonary fellowship training at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA, before returning to Emory to join the Interventional Pulmonology program in 2009. He has been the director of the Interventional Pulmonology Program at Emory since 2012 and also serves as the medical director of Respiratory Therapy at Emory University Hospital.
Abesh Niroula, MBBS, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine
Dr. Niroula completed medical school from Kathmandu University, Nepal in 2009. He graduated in 2015 from the internal medicine residency program at Abington Hospital-Jefferson Health in Abington, PA. He was appointed as a chief resident in the Department of Internal Medicine from 2015-2016. He completed his pulmonary, critical care fellowship training at Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, PA, and an additional one-year of interventional pulmonary fellowship training at Emory University. He has since joined the Interventional Pulmonology Program at Emory University in 2020.
Alejandro H. Sardi, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine

Dr. Sardi graduated with honors from medical school in 1998 at the “Los Andes” University School of Medicine in Merida, Venezuela. He completed internal medicine training in the Central University of Venezuela in 2003 and at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia in 2007. His fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine was completed at Albert Einstein Medical Center in 2010 and in interventional pulmonology at Ohio State University in 2016. He joined Emory St. Joseph's Hospital in 2016, where he directs the Interventional Pulmonary Program.
Wissam S Jaber, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine
Dr. Jaber completed his residency in internal medicine at Emory University. His fellowship training in pulmonary, critical care medicine, and interventional pulmonary were completed at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. He has held the position of interventional pulmonary director at University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2012-2015. He joined Emory Healthcare in 2019 after several years in private practice. He currently serves at Emory University Hospital Midtown and Grady Memorial Hospital, where he specializes in interventional pulmonology, pulmonary medicine, and critical care.
Matthew Schimmel, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine
Dr. Schimmel completed his internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD in 2017. He then moved to Atlanta and completed his pulmonary and critical care fellowship, as well as an additional year of interventional pulmonary training at Emory University. As of 2021, he remained on as faculty and has joined the Interventional Pulmonary team at Emory University.
Vicki J. Green DNP, FNP-BC
Vicki began her healthcare career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1993. In 1998, she received her Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) from Dekalb College. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Clayton State University in 2008 and went on to pursue her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in 2011, also through Clayton State University. She focused her master’s degree thesis on “Nurse Rounding." In 2017, Vicki received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at Augusta University. Her doctorate degree project focused on “Decreasing the length of stay in the Emergency Department." She is board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has worked for Emory Healthcare for 18 years in the Emergency Department and Radiology. She joined the Emory Interventional Pulmonary team at ESJH in 2018.
Kelly Daymude, AGACNP-BC, MSN, CCRN
Kelly is an Atlanta native who completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Medical College of Georgia in 2010. She worked as a registered nurse from 2010 to 2019. After beginning at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, she moved to Washington D.C. in 2012 and worked at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Intensive Care. Upon relocating to Atlanta in 2014, she worked as a registered nurse in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit at Emory Midtown before completing her Master of Science in Nursing from University of Alabama Birmingham in 2018. She joined the Interventional Pulmonology team at Emory in 2019 as a Nurse Practitioner.
Janine Revenig, MMSc, PA-C
Janine completed her undergraduate degree at University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She received her Master of Medical Science (MMSc) at Mercer University in Atlanta, GA and is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She has previously worked in pulmonary critical care and thoracic oncology. Janine joined the Emory Interventional Pulmonary team in 2019.
Trang Tran
Administrative Coordinator
Trang completed her Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion at the University of Georgia. She is a certified health education specialist and has participated in program development before joining Emory. She has now become part of the Emory Interventional Pulmonary Program team, assisting the program with the planning, administration, and management of the program’s overall objectives.
