Reporting to EASIL
If you are interested in joining EASIL, simply send an email to us at easil@emory.edu. The EASIL coordinator can work with your Facility Administrator and Infection Preventionist to determine a plan of action specific to your facility to get you on board.
Benefits of participating in the EASIL initiative include creation of monthly reports such as this one. These reports summarize the data that your facility sends in, and displays relevant information in charts and graphs that help your infection control staff and EASIL identify areas for improvement, assess the impacts of interventions, and determine how well your facility adheres to national guidance.
Participation in EASIL is simple – once you have been accepted, simply fill out the excel sheet linked above titled “EASIL Antibiotic Report Template” once a month. Instructions are provided on the document, and you may reach out to the EASIL coordinator with questions and for clarification as needed. You may also keep these monthly files to store your facility’s antibiotic data if you wish. At the end of every quarter, EASIL staff will schedule a meeting with you to present the quarterly report to your infection preventionist. At this meeting, EASIL staff will break down the report with you and address any questions you may have.

Antibiotic Prescribing
Dose, Duration, Indication
Information about the volume of new antibiotic starts in your facility, for which infections, and among which patients can provide a window into the effectiveness of your stewardship program. Overtime, trends in these metrics will indicate progress in reducing the risk of antibiotic-resistant infections throughout your facility.
With new antibiotic starts, it is vital to ensure clear and accurate documentation of the dose of antibiotic(s) being prescribed, the intended duration of treatment, and the clinical indications for the specific treatment regimen. In the aggregate, these values should correspond to the most up-to-date prescription guidelines and algorithms from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Proper recording of these data, along with subgroup analyses will ensure that prescribing algorithms are being followed by all prescribers and for all patients.
