Emory’s Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship Program is a one-year training program that provides a comprehensive therapeutic endoscopy experience, and is offered to those who have completed an accredited three-year U.S. Gastroenterology fellowship program. The program accepts one fellow each year.
Program Details
The program is led by the diverse advanced endoscopy faculty of the Division of Digestive Diseases. These providers perform approximately 1,000 ERCP and 800 EUS procedures yearly at Emory University Hospital/The Emory Clinic. They are one of the few groups in the nation that offer various other advanced endoscopy procedures, such as ESD, POEM/GPOEM, and deep balloon enteroscopy, with state-of-the-art capabilities.
Advanced fellows perform two half-days per week of routine endoscopy and colonoscopy independently, and participate in the night and weekend general GI call pool with other Emory faculty to bolster their skills as they transition from a trainee to the role of an attending. Advanced fellows are not required to staff the inpatient general GI service.
Advanced fellows will gain exposure to various procedures, including but not limited to:
- EUS (diagnostic & therapeutic, including cystgastrostomy)
- ERCP (including altered anatomy)
- Spy Glass cholangioscopy/pancreatoscopy
- Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) for achalasia
- Gastric-Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (G-POEM) for gastroparesis
- Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR)
- Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD)
- Single & Double Balloon Enteroscopy
- Endoscopic management of Barrett’s Esophagus
- Cryotherapy
- Enteral stenting
- Endoscopic closure/suturing of leaks, fistulae and bariatric complications
