Dear Visitors,
The Emory Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is distinguished by its profound commitment to innovation and excellence in the field. We offer comprehensive care in the reconstruction of congenital and acquired defects and cosmetic surgery. The dedication to patient care and education has afforded Emory Plastic Surgery the reputation as one of the top programs in the country. Dr Maurice Jurkiewicz started the program in 1951 and since then Emory plastic Surgery has become nationally recognized for significant advances in plastic surgery as well as the many amazing plastic surgeons who graduate this program. We have a vibrant and distinguished alumni group called the “Jurkiewicz Society” (see link) who meet biennially and have become the heart of our Emory Plastic Surgery family.
Division leadership has included Dr John Bostwick who became Chief of the Division in 1993, Dr T. Roderick Hester in 2002, Dr Grant Carlson in 2010 and Dr Albert Losken in 2024. Groundbreaking developments in the field from Emory have included refinements in musculocutaneous flaps, autologous breast reconstruction, endoscopic plastic surgery, innovation, skin sparing mastectomy, oncoplastic surgery and facial aesthetic surgery. The current Emory Plastic Surgery Faculty is a group of talented world class plastic surgeons who specialize in all aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery covering the Emory Hospitals, Grady Memorial Hospital, VA Hospital and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Our residency program is ranked in the top ten nationally and offers two ACGME-approved tracks. The independent track is a three-year commitment for those who have completed either general surgery training or other approved training. The integrated track is a six-year commitment straight out of medical school. We currently accept two independent residents and three integrated residents each year. The two programs complement each other, which fosters an amazing environment for the best and brightest to learn and grow.
We invite you to explore our website to learn more about our programs, our achievements, and the opportunities at Emory Division of Plastic Surgery. Whether you are a prospective student, a referring physician, or a patient, we look forward to engaging with you and exploring how we can meet your needs and exceed your expectations.
Sincerely,
Albert Losken MD, FACS
