Carissa Sawyer is a third-year doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology PsyD program at Mercer University. She received her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Carissa’s clinical interests include working with individuals who have experienced traumatic events, as well as those with comorbid physical and psychological disabilities. She has a diverse range of clinical experience in behavioral health, forensic, college counseling, hospice, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient physical rehabilitation settings. Carissa’s research experiences have focused on the interactions among childhood adversity and the development of emotion dysregulation and psychopathology in early adolescence. In her free time, Carissa enjoys reading, listening to true crime podcasts and spending time with loved ones.
