All individuals accepted into the program must complete specific onboarding requirements prior to the start of the postdoctoral residency program. These include orientation, background screening, and pre-employment health assessments. Regarding background screening, Grady Health System, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and Emory Healthcare – Emory Brain Health Center all require criminal background checks, and these background checks cannot reveal any prior felony convictions. Health assessments include drug testing and proof of immunization. All sites include tobacco screening, and for the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta locations, this must reveal no use of nicotine. Final acceptance into our program is contingent on passing the background check, finger printing, etc., that is required at each of the institutions associated with the program. Per Emory University policy, an offer of employment would be rescinded if a postdoctoral resident does not pass drug testing or if the background check reveals a history of a felony conviction. Misdemeanor conviction detected on background check would require review before a decision could be made regarding employment status.
