The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences’ Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Committee (DISC) offers a Diversity Consultation Service. This service connects providers with consultants when attention to cultural factors is essential to quality patient care and the provider team requires more education/information about the patient’s culture and how it may impact care.
The Diversity Consultation Service includes faculty, trainees, and staff who understand a wide range of topics including but not limited to race, ethnicity, language, disability, religion, sexual identity, gender identity, refugees and immigration and implicit bias. Consultants may help in any way they can, whether that be by email, phone or in person. The service, which is neither billable nor a replacement for language interpreter services, provides an invaluable resource for patients and providers alike.
If you would like a consultation, please contact Nicholas Thompson, MD, MPH, who can help you get linked to a specific consultant. In addition, if you are interested/willing to consult on any topics, please provide this information to Dr. Thompson. All requests for consultation and offers to consult will be held in confidence.
