The residency application process
All residency applicants are asked to carefully complete the following steps. Please address application questions to Miss Tracey Yancey, the residency program coordinator.
- Start by logging onto SF Match, the residency and fellowship matching service
- Applications should be made through the Central Application System.
- Plan to submit a CAS application by the deadline stated in the CAS. Emory Eye Center does not establish or change these deadlines.
- Applicants chosen for interviews will be contacted by Emory Eye Center via phone before the beginning of December
- In-person or virtual interviews will be conducted, by appointment, during the first two weeks of December
- To ensure efficient and accurate communication with all candidates, the Emory Eye Center requests all residency applicants to include the following items in their application package: a recent photograph, as well as their current address, cell phone, work phone, and email address.
The candidate consideration process
Only those candidates who have submitted complete applications through the CAS will be considered for an in-person interview. Clinical experience from within the United States is not required to apply for residency, however, a minimum of two years of clinical experience is required prior to entry into residency. Where appropriate, applicants should familiarize themselves with the Requirements for Foreign Medical School Graduates All international medical graduates (IMGs) should submit certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
The candidate interview process
Candidates invited for in-person interviews can expect to learn a lot about the Emory Eye Center.
The visit will include
- An informal social gathering with current residents the night before interviews
- A detailed overview of the Emory Eye Center Residency Program, delivered by the residency director and the department chair.
- A tour of the Emory Eye Center's Clifton Road facilities, including labs, clinics, and teaching spaces
- Individual interviews with three faculty members and one resident
- A brief meeting with the residency program director and department chair
All candidates are encouraged to bring questions to the interview process. The Selection Committee views this as an opportunity to build a team that will support and challenge us - and each other - over the course of a very demanding training program.
