Eleanor was born in Birmingham, AL and grew up in Auburn, AL. She attended college at Brown University, where she double majored in Classical languages and Neuroscience. Following college, she did two years of research in neuronal plasticity at the NIH, and then attended Yale University School of Medicine for her MD/PhD. During her PhD she studied ALS pathogenesis in a rodent model focusing on how disease- causing misfolded proteins could spread between different cell populations in the spinal cord. Eleanor chose Emory because of its diverse clinical exposure and training environment, opportunities to continue her research in ALS, and eagerness to live in a vibrant, growing city close to her hometown. During her free time, she enjoys cooking, playing golf, and spending time with her family, including her one-year old son.
