Qasem was born in the UK, before going back to Palestine where he grew up and attended medical school. He then moved to the US to work as a research fellow in the center for clinical neurophysiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He worked on neurophysiologic intraoperative monitoring and the use of IOM to detect stroke in the surgical population, thus allowing for early intervention. Aside from clinical practice, Qasem is interested in medical education and in medical sociology. Therefore, Emory was his choice for its excellence in providing clinical care, cutting edge research, serving marginalized populations, and the ample opportunities to follow his research interests. In his free time, he loves hiking with his wife Hala, visiting new places, and exploring new ideas.
