This class for SUPERR students specifically focuses on the study of nephrology in an informal, open manner. The aim of these classes is to have open dialogue with the instructor and other students while learning unique areas of kidney-focused research and tools for a future in research science. Please understand that attendance is a mandatory addition to your summer experience as a SUPERR fellow.

Introductions, Questions, and Pizza

Week 1 - During the first meeting, you will meet the other SUPERR students along with SUPERR faculty, mentors, and staff for a Q&A session on the program and what to expect for the summer.

Week 2 - We will briefly touch on the relevant physiology of the kidney and how it relates to renal function.

Ethical Concerns with Renal Transplant

Week 3 - Using actual case studies, we will have an open discussion about the ethical considerations that must be considered when selecting suitable transplant donors.

How to Read and Understand a Scientific Paper

The Basics of Statistical Data Analysis

Week 5 - This session will outline some of the basic statistical analyses needed in data analysis and when to use them.

SUPERR Star Journal Club

Week 6 - The discussion of a trending article focused on some aspect of renal-based research. Students will be provided the paper a week in advance and are expected to apply the strategies taught to participate in the discussion.

Preparing a Poster Presentation
