Emory University Hospital’s emergency medicine physicians provide high-quality, cutting-edge care for our patients.
The Emory University Hospital Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is staffed with emergency medical physicians and nursing specialists at all times. Our Emergency Department staff is committed to providing our patients with the highest quality of care in a private, comfortable setting.
Located in the heart of the Emory University campus, we provide access to a number of specialists located at The Emory Clinic for complex medical and surgical problems. The Emergency Department is typically staffed with six to eight Emergency Medicine attendings per day, providing double coverage almost the entire day. In addition, there are two to three Associate Providers (Advanced Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants) every day who provide 24 hours of coverage for the care of patients with minor illnesses and injuries.
We have an 8-bed clinical decision unit (CDU) that provides state-of-the-art care for patients requiring prolonged care prior to discharge or admission. The CDU is staffed by associate providers 12 hours a day with direct supervision by attending Emergency Medicine physicians. The CDU specializes in the evaluation and treatment of cardiac emergencies, but more than 20 protocol diagnosis may be placed in this unit for evaluation, monitoring, and treatment.
The Emergency Department provides care to many patients of the Emory Clinic as well as patients seeking care from the local community. Many patients with complex illnesses seek care only at the Emory University Hospital Emergency Department. We coordinate care with a nationally recognized cardiac care program, a regional stroke center, and a leading infectious disease department supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to care not only for the common medical concerns of the community but for the most critically ill population in the region.
