Where are you from?
I am from Woodstock, Georgia.
Describe your path to the Emory Medical Imaging Program
I was undecided about what to major in, but I was very attracted to the possibility of working in the medical field, given that both my grandparents are doctors. I graduated from Woodstock High School at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. I completed some coursework at Kennesaw State University. In October 2020, I started researching schools for medical imaging, and Emory was my first choice. I was able to apply for the fall 2021 semester.
Getting accepted was a turning point because it meant I had to make many changes, including moving closer to school and living independently. I was excited to start this journey and decided to specialize in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). I found my niche in pediatric medical imaging when I did clinical practices at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
What field do you plan to pursue post-graduation?
I would like to work at a children's hospital and perhaps further my education to become a physician assistant.
What would you want others to know about your years in the Emory Medical Imaging Program?
The smaller class sizes allow you to create relationships with classmates and professors who are there for you. Also, the clinical sites are top of the class and provide excellent hands-on experience.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in Medical Imaging and come to Emory?
I come from a family of doctors, which made the medical field inviting as a possibility for my future. I was aware that medical imaging was a career with growing opportunities. After researching the possibilities, I felt this was my calling. Emory University was the perfect place for me: small classes, outstanding clinical locations, and the opportunity to learn by doing.
What did you like most about living in Atlanta?
I have always lived in the Atlanta area, but moving from Woodstock to Decatur was a good change. I love the many restaurants and being close to many of the city's attractions.
