Where are you from?
I am originally from Lawrenceville, Georgia. Being able to stay close to home while pursuing my education really meant a lot to me.
Describe your path to the Emory Medical Imaging Program
My path to the Emory Medical Imaging Program wasn’t completely straightforward. I actually started college as a business marketing major but quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit. While exploring my next steps, I realized I had a strong desire to comfort and support people who are sick or in pain. My heart led me to explore health care, which ultimately guided me toward medical imaging.
What field do you plan to pursue post-graduation?
At this point, I’m not 100% certain which field I want to pursue long-term. My experience at Emory has opened my eyes to the incredible possibilities of this field. I’ve worked alongside a wide range of health care professionals at Emory, and I’ve realized I am interested in continuing my education.
I know I want to pursue a master’s degree in the future, but I’m still exploring which path best aligns with my passions and goals. For now, I’m excited to begin my career in imaging while keeping an open mind to new paths that may emerge along the way.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in medical imaging and come to Emory?
My interest in medical imaging began when my mom became sick and had to undergo multiple scans at the hospital. I knew my aunt was a technologist specializing in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (CT/MRI), but at the time, I didn’t fully understand her role. As my mom continued her care, my aunt became more involved and began introducing me to the field of radiology. Through that experience, I gained a firsthand understanding of why radiologists refer to this field as “the eyes of medicine.” After speaking with my aunt and other professionals, I realized that medical imaging was something I could see myself pursuing long-term.
As I began researching programs, my aunt helped guide me, which led me to Emory. I chose Emory because they offered a bachelor’s degree in medical imaging along with a CT/MRI minor. That aligned perfectly with my goal of becoming a technologist, and I knew right away it was exactly where I wanted to be.
What would you want others to know about your years in the Emory Medical Imaging Program?
My time at Emory was challenging, but also highly rewarding. The program’s rigorous environment provides academic and professional growth while strengthening my skills and confidence. I learned a lot, not just about imaging, but also about patient care, teamwork and staying adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
At the same time, the program challenged me on a deeper level and really tested my faith. Through everything, I met some amazing people who I know will be lifelong friends. No matter how tough things got, I stayed true to myself, kept my light and never compromised my values.
What did you like most about living in Atlanta?
There was always something to do in Atlanta. Whether it was trying new restaurants with the girls, exploring different scenic areas or just hanging around such a diverse group of people. Although I didn’t live directly in Atlanta, I really enjoyed being close to the city. It allowed me to experience city life while still being close to home, which made everything feel more balanced.
