Biography
James is an MD-PhD student from Ashland, Massachusetts who graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a B.S. in Microbiology. At UMass Amherst, he conducted research in the laboratory of Professor Sloan Siegrist, where he studied the role of a glycolipid known as trehalose dimycolate in the pathogenesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. He then conducted his post-baccalaureate training in the laboratory of Professor Marie Hollenhorst where he investigated the role of platelet glycoproteins in hemostasis and thrombosis. He then initiated a project aiming to characterize the structural features of phospholipids required for autoantibody binding in an autoimmune disorder known as Antiphospholipid Syndrome.
When not in the lab or clinic, James enjoys eating, running, swimming, reading and playing league of legends.
Areas of Interest
His current research interests lie at the intersection of immunology and hematology, particularly in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying allo- and autoantibody responses.
His clinical interests are in classical hematology, and he hopes to focus on the treatment of patients with sickle cell disease and hematologic autoimmune disorders.
