Biography
Lauren is an MD/PhD student from Batavia, Illinois, who graduated from Emory University with a B.S. in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology and a minor in Spanish. At Emory, she conducted research in Dr. Hyder A. Jinnah’s lab studying the biochemical pathogenesis of Lesch-Nyhan Disease using a stem cell model. During college, she also spent a year as a transcranial magnetic stimulation technician, where she developed an interest in treatment-resistant mental health conditions and in researching related therapies. After graduating, Lauren spent two years working in Dr. Jessica Magid-Bernstein’s lab at Yale University conducting translational research on immune biomarkers that predict outcomes after hemorrhagic stroke.
While not in lab or clinic, she can be found trying new restaurants, doing yoga, golfing, or making tea.
Areas of Interest
- As an MD/PhD student, Lauren is interested in studying neuropsychiatric disease mechanisms, such as how disruptions in brain circuits and neurochemical systems give rise to altered states of consciousness, identity, and behavior. She is also interested in mechanisms of related therapies, including psychotropic drugs and neuromodulation, to improve their clinical use.
- Her clinical interests are in psychiatry, neurology, and palliative care.
