New ACS Award to Dorothy Lerit

Congratulations to Dr. Dorothy Lerit for her new 3-year American Cancer Society research scholar grant titled, “The generation of functional asymmetries in neural stem cells”. This grant will allow the Lerit lab to expand their studies of the post- transcriptional regulation of centrosome genes in exciting new directions to investigate how the centrosomes within neural stem cells regulate asymmetric cell division, the deregulation of which is associated with neurodegeneration or tumorigenesis. The work is of relevance to glioblastoma, the most frequent and deadly form of brain tumor, which in some cases arises due to the uncontrolled proliferation of neural stem cells.

New eNeuro Publication in the Bassell Lab

Congratulations to the Bassell lab for their publication in eNeuro titled, ”Altered behavioral responses show GABA sensitivity in Muscleblind-like 2 deficient mice: Implications for CNS symptoms in myotonic dystrophy.” The lead author of the paper is Kamyra Edokpolor, PhD (left), second author Anwesha Banerjee, PhD (former Postdoc in the Bassell Lab), along with researchers at Columbia and the University of Florida.

Their work was also highlighted in the Emory News Center.
