Biography
Carey completed her PhD in the Cancer Biology program. She studied immune response to cancer, focusing on mechanisms of immune infiltration & organization in solid tumors in the laboratory of Dr. Haydn Kissick. She is interested in continuing in this field and plans to become a medical oncologist with a basic and translational research program focused on understanding the immune response to genitourinary tumors and the impact of this on therapeutic responses. She is also passionate about rural health and rural patients’ access to cancer care. She is active in developing community for and advocating for physician scientist trainees, as a leader at both the national and local levels in the American Physician Scientists Association, and is a dedicated advocate for women and parents in careers in science and medicine.
