GLOBE Track: Global Health Overview by Education and Engagement
Goals
The GLOBE Track: Global Health Overview by Education and Engagement is a 24-month (or more) track organized by the Global Health & Equity Office at the School of Medicine to support residents and fellows to gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to prepare them for careers that incorporate global health endeavors, leadership, and administrative responsibilities.
This 24-month (or more) track combines asynchronous course work, case-based exercises, live panels, and didactic sessions. The track culminates in a global health experience and scholarly capstone project.
Learning Objectives
It is the goal of the GLOBE track to develop physicians that can:
- Employ the practical, clinical, and academic skills required to deliver quality care in a resource-limited setting.
- Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of social, ethical, and geopolitical concerns relevant to global health engagement.
- Design, analyze, and review projects and partnerships in low-resource settings.
Outcome
Upon completion of the track, residents and fellows will be awarded a certificate of distinction in Global Health from Emory University School of Medicine at the time of their residency/fellowship graduation. This certificate will be given only to trainees that have completed the GLOBE Track and the clinical and academic requirements of their individual residency/fellowship programs.
- For residents/fellows enrolled in departmental global health tracks, they must be in good standing within their respective residency/fellowship global health track.
- For residents not enrolled in department global health tracks, they must be in good standing within their respective residency/fellowship programs and complete their guided independent study requirements (see details below).
Eligibility and Track Requirements
- For residents and fellows whose departments have department-level global health tracks (see list below), they must have departmental permission before nomination to the GLOBE track. These departments have specialty-specific curricula in global health and have pathways for their residents to combine their department specific tracks with the GLOBE Track for a comprehensive global health experience.
- For residents and fellows that do not have a departmental global health track, they should apply directly to the GLOBE track directors, via Saiza Jivani, with departmental permission. GLOBE leadership will then work with their department mentor to provide guided independent study in lieu of participation in a formal global health track (see “Guided Independent Study” below).
- Attendance & Participation:
- Participate in asynchronous and in-person meetings
- Participants should have at least 75% attendance and have completed 100% course requirements within each module
- Active participation includes contributions to discussions.
- Professional behavior online and respect for colleagues is expected – while exploration of different perspectives is encouraged, flaming, or canceling is not acceptable.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team project production and presentation
- Participate and successful completion of global/local project
- Participate in asynchronous and in-person meetings
- Complete requirements of respective residency global health track or guided independent study
- Participate in pre and post-evaluation

Application Process:
Application to the GLOBE Track is open to all residents or fellows in good standing with their graduate medical education training program.
- For residents/fellows enrolled in departmental global health tracks:
- Residents will be nominated by department Global Health Faculty lead/designee and Program Director. The Program Director will submit a letter of endorsement to the GLOBE Office. Each year, please contact your department for their application process.

These residents should submit a letter of interest to the GLOBE track directors, along with a signed program director endorsement, and departmental mentor letter of support. Once accepted, the resident or fellow will work with their departmental mentor to supervise guided independent study, including identifying a 24-month schedule with requirements.
