Falak Hussain is a third-year clinical psychology doctoral student at Mercer University. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and biological sciences and a Master’s in biomedical sciences from Rutgers University. Her career is rooted in a passion for health and trauma psychology, with extensive experience conducting psychological assessments, including evaluations for domestic violence, substance abuse, parental fitness and psychosexual assessments. In her second year, Falak was awarded a scholarship to receive training and provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for individuals with chronic pain. Falak has also received training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) through the Medical University of South Carolina and Amerigroup. She is currently completing her certification process for TF-CBT. Furthermore, she has completed introductory training for Unified Protocol, which focuses on addressing the root causes of emotional and psychological difficulties. She is passionate about understanding and tackling the foundational issues underlying trauma, believing that true healing comes from addressing these core challenges rather than merely treating surface-level symptoms.
Falak actively engages in community outreach, including mental health screenings for refugees in medical clinics, and has run mental health education groups for elementary and middle school students in Clarkston. Her therapeutic approach is collaborative and ongoing, aimed at fostering strength, resilience and empowerment in her clients. Falak is particularly dedicated to working with minority populations, recognizing these groups are often overlooked and misunderstood in mental health settings. She strives to offer a supportive and empathetic ear, ensuring a therapeutic and healing experience that respects and values an individual’s unique background. At the Nia Project, Falak brings a blend of academic excellence, clinical expertise and a genuine dedication to enhancing the well-being of those she serves.
