For Faculty

An organizational culture rich in diverse experiences helps us provide compassionate, cross-cultural care as we lead the effort to eliminate health inequities across the globe. Our faculty are at the forefront of excellence in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and the Office of Equity and Inclusion offers resources to support this important work.

Actionable Education Initiative

An educational portfolio for learners, staff and faculty that infuses principles and competencies to move from awareness of internal biases and external forces of marginalization and oppression into learning about their historical and psychological origins and effects and on to growing into anti-racist allies who actively work for and prize diversity, equity and inclusion. The resources are available in four domains: anti-racism, implicit bias education, from bystander to upstander and history.

Affinity Groups

To build a culture that recognizes the contributions of all individuals, including those who come from underrepresented groups, our office hosts affinity groups and affinity month celebrations.

Diversity and Inclusion Week

A school-wide celebration of the broad ranges of identities and experiences that make up our diverse community. The week offers lectures, breakout sessions, power presentations, and social activities.

Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award

Awarded by the Office of Faculty Academic Affairs and Professional Development, this award recognizes faculty who have made significant achievements in ensuring the climate of the school is characterized by inclusivity and organizational equity through leveraging the various attributes of diversity in our community.

Program for Retaining, Supporting, and Elvating Early-Career Researchers at Emory (PeRSEVERE)

Clinical scientists, among others, have encountered multiple challenges to their research programs including family caregiving responsibilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. This fund allows SOM early career faculty to maximize the impact of research supplements, research and grant administrative support, institutional resources to offset caregiving expenses, and enhanced access to professional development, mentorship and sponsorship activities at this critical career stage.

Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) Professional Development Course

A 5-month career development program for underrepresented minority faculty. This longitudinal program provides resources, information and tools important for academic success. The course features didactic sessions from diverse speakers, experiential components, along with peer mentoring and networking. Participants are also paired with organizational leaders as coaches during this process.

DEIRA Curriculum

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Racial Advocacy (DEIRA) curriculum is designed to lay a foundation of anti-racism and equip students to become DEI leaders and advocates.

Speakers Bureau

As the School of Medicine advances towards equity, inclusion, and community engagement, we have created a speakers bureau specifically for our faculty who self-identify as Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) and/or women.

Juneteenth Programming

An annual film screening and discussion on the historic struggles to secure equal and adequate access to healthcare for all Americans.

Hamilton E. Holmes Memorial Lecture

An annual lecture series named for the first African-American to enter and graduate from Emory University School of Medicine.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service

Annual recognition and celebration of people and organizations in greater Atlanta whose work exemplifies the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
