Yazan Duwayri MD MBA
Overview
In addition to being Professor of Surgery of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, Department of Surgery, Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Duwayri is Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Service Line at Emory University Hospital and Co-Director of the Emory Aortic Center.
Dr. Duwayri specializes in endoluminal and open vascular surgery, with his primary areas of clinical interest being carotid stenosis, abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms, aortoiliac occlusive disease, renal arterial stenosis, thoracic outlet syndrome, dialysis access, peripheral arterial disease, and venous disease. His current research is focusing on outcomes in vascular surgery, while his prior investigations concentrated on exploring cell culture techniques for in-vitro expansion of human mesenchymal stem cell populations and overcoming the limitations of senescence of stem cell populations.
He received his MD at the University of Jordan School of Medicine, Amman, Jordan, in 2002. He completed his postdoctoral research scholarship at the University of Iowa in 2004, his general surgery residency at the University of Toledo in 2009, and his vascular surgery fellowship at Washington University in Saint Louis in 2011. He attended Emory's Goizueta Business School, receiving his MBA in 2021.
Dr. Duwayri has been heavily involved with developing Emory's use of fenestrated aortic endografts for treating juxtarenal aortic aneurysms. In 2012, he was a member of the surgical team that successfully implanted Georgia's first FDA-approved fenestrated aortic endograft as a minimally invasive treatment for patients with complex abdominal aortic aneurysms.
Academic Appointment
- Professor of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, Department of Surgery, Emory University School of Medicine
Education
Degrees
- MD from University of Jordan
- MBA from Goizueta Business School, Emory University
Research
Focus
- My current focus is clinical outcomes research to assess the influence of endovascular device modification on the mid term and long term results of endovascular interventions in aneurysm and peripheral occlusive disease. My prior laboratory research focused on exploring cell culture techniques for in-vitro expansion of human mesenchymal stem cell populations and to overcome the limitations of senescence of stem cell populations via genetic modification.
