William Stokes Jr
Overview
William (Bill) Stokes, MD, is a radiation oncologist specializing in the treatment of head and neck cancer, and lung cancer in addition to stereotactic body radiotherapy. He treats patients at Emory University Hospital Midtown and Emory Proton Therapy Center.
Dr. Stokes graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Biology from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina. He received his medical degree from University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He then completed an internship in internal medicine and his residency in radiation oncology at University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, Colorado, where he was Chief Resident in his final year of residency training.
As a medical student, Dr. Stokes was selected as a Howard Holderness Distinguished Medical Scholar and completed a one-year research fellowship. During residency, he was selected by his peers for induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
During his training, Dr. Stokes performed clinical research in using big data to investigate patterns of care and outcomes among cancer patients and developing phase I trials in head and neck cancer.
Dr. Stokes has published multiple manuscripts in oncology journals such as Cancer, International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics, and Journal of Clinical Oncology. He also serves as a reviewer for several journals, including Practical Radiation Oncology, Oral Oncology, Head and Neck, Radiotherapy and Oncology, and International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics.
