Overview

Following his undergraduate education at Northwestern University, Dr. Master received both his MD and PhD degrees at the University of Chicago. He completed his urology residency and two urologic fellowships at the University of California in San Francisco before joining Emory Urology in 2005.

Dr. Master's clinical practice focuses on renal, adrenal, testicular and penile cancer. Having completed fellowships in both reconstructive urology with Dr. Jack McAninch and in oncology with Dr. Peter Carroll, he is committed to penile preserving therapies and minimally invasive approaches to groin and pelvic nodes. Along with other colleagues, he refined videoscopic groin dissection for a variety of cutaneous malignancies, including melanoma, anal, vulvar, and penile cancer. His work in kidney cancer focuses on cancer immunology in the context of locally advanced and metastatic renal cell carcinoma, and he regularly performs inferior vena cava (IVC) tumor thrombectomy.

As the director of clinical research for Emory Urology, Dr. Master is actively investigating both the role of inflammation in cancers and "host" (patient) interaction with the disease.

Dr. Master serves as an expert advisor to the American Cancer Society on prostate cancer and to the International Consultation on Urologic Diseases on kidney cancer. He has lectured both nationally and internationally; is closely involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, urology residents, and post-graduate fellows; and has authored multiple book chapters and scientific journal articles.

In addition to his dedication to Emory patients, Dr. Master is also involved in humanitarian pursuits. He has made several surgical trips to Haiti as a member of the Emory Haiti Alliance, a volunteer consortium of Emory medical students, surgery and anesthesiology residents, faculty physicians, and mid-level practitioners that journey to Haiti in the summer to provide surgical care in the Central Plateau region, the poorest and most medically underserved area in the country.
