Overview
Dr. Thomas A. Berk, MD FRCSC, is a fellowship-trained glaucoma, complex cataract, and anterior segment surgeon. He is board-certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and joined the Emory Eye Center as an attending surgeon in 2022. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Dr. Berk graduated Summa Cum Laude with honors from York University's psychology program, and then obtained his MD degree from the University of Toronto. He went on to complete his residency at McGill University in Montreal, where he was recognized multiple times for his natural teaching ability and dedication to furthering ophthalmic education. Dr. Berk then completed a clinical and surgical fellowship in complex glaucoma and anterior segment surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, under the mentorship of Dr. Ian P. Conner, MD PhD.
Dr. Berk is experienced in both traditional glaucoma surgical techniques (trabeculectomy and tube shunt surgeries) as well as more novel, micro-invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS), and is passionate about tailoring his surgical approach to each patient's unique disease and needs. His comfort with complex anterior segment procedures allows him to further support the Emory Eye Center and the surrounding Georgia population by serving as a referral destination for patients suffering from dislocated intraocular lenses, traumatic cataracts, and iris defects requiring surgical repair. He is excited to contribute to the training of the next generation of ophthalmic leaders, by actively taking a hand in the education of Emory's ophthalmology residents and glaucoma fellows.
When not working, Dr. Berk enjoys spending time with his wife and children, exploring all that Atlanta and the surrounding area has to offer their young family.
Dr. Berk sees patients at the Emory Eye Center's Clifton and Midtown locations, as well as at Grady Memorial Hospital.
