Sunil Dutta
Overview
A board-certified radiation oncologist Sunil W. Dutta, MD, specializes in the treatment of breast cancer and brain and spinal tumors. Dr. Dutta is an expert in advanced radiation therapies, including proton therapy, photon therapy, and Gamma Knife radiosurgery. He practices at Emory Proton Therapy Center and Emory Saint Josephs Hospital, where he is also the co-director of the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Program.
Dr. Dutta is an assistant professor in the department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Dutta holds national prominence in proton therapy, notably serving as co-chair of a national Phase III clinical trial evaluating proton therapy for breast cancer. His approach prioritizes both effective treatment outcomes and patient quality of life, emphasizing compassionate and individualized patient care.
Dr. Dutta graduated magna cum laude from the University of Kentucky in Electrical Engineering, and completed medical school at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. During training, he was a recipient of the Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award, American Brachytherapy Society Annual Conference Resident Abstract Award, and American Brachytherapy Society Prostate Brachytherapy Workshop Scholarship.
Dr. Dutta's research interests include clinical trial design, with an emphasis on quality of life during and after radiation treatment. He has authored and coauthored over 40 scientific, peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts and given many oral presentations at national and international meetings.
