Overview
Dr. Rab is a Professor of Medicine in Interventional Cardiology and a Eminent Physician (Master Clinician) at Emory University and Emory Healthcare.He received his Medical degree in 1979 from the University of Karachi Pakistan. Between 1980 and 1983 he trained in the United Kingdom at Hammersmith Hospital, London, Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. Between 1983 and 1986 he completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit , Michigan. He trained at Emory University between 1986-1990 in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. Between 1991-1998 he developed an extensive system of satellite cardiology clinics in North Georgia and in 1998 joined the Emory faculty. He is Board Certified in Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and Master Interventionalist of the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions (MSCAI).
Dr. Rab's research consists of clinical trials in Interventional Cardiology with an interest in Coronary Bifurcations, Left Main stenting and atherectomy/plaque modification procedures.
Dr. Rab serves as the Section Chief of Cardiology and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Interventional Cardiology at Emory Decatur Hospital.
Dr. Rab has served on the ACC/AHA Clinical Practice Guideline writing committee and the ABIM exam writing and approval committee for Interventonal Cardiology.He was the liason and a guideline writer for the 2025 ACC/AHA/SCAI Acute Coronary Syndrome Guideline. He also hosts the monthly Bifurcation series webinar for SCAI.

Research
Focus
- Care of patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction and appropriate door to balloon time for Metro Atlanta and Emory Healthcare is an ongoing project involving multiple committees and the American Heart Association. Treatment of patients with Left Main Coronary artery disease, either by stenting or a hybrid procedure has been the subject of research for many years and will be the subject of a international multicenter trial (EXCEL),with Emory as a site compare stenting vs surgery for this disease entity.
