Susan Pereira Ribeiro
Overview
Dr. Susan Pereira Ribeiro is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. She is affiliated with the Pathology Advanced Translational Research Unit (PATRU) and the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. Dr. Ribeiro earned her PhD from the University of So Paulo School of Medicine, Brazil, where she also completed a postdoctoral fellowship focusing on HIV vaccine development and immunogenicity evaluation in pre-clinical models. She further extended her studies to HIV pathogenesis during her postdoctoral work at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
Her research interests encompass the role of IL-10 and other factors, such as the microbiome, metabolome, and drugs of abuse, in modulating the immune system in HIV, cancers, COVID-19 and Down syndrome. Dr. Ribeiro's work has contributed to understanding the mechanisms underlying viral persistence and implications for therapeutic interventions.
